Description
"Altered Beast" is a side-scrolling beat 'em up arcade game developed and published by Sega. It was originally released in 1988 for arcades and later ported to various home consoles, including the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive.
In "Altered Beast," players assume the role of a resurrected Roman centurion who is transformed into a powerful beast by Zeus. The main objective is to rescue Zeus' daughter, Athena, who has been kidnapped by the evil god of the underworld, Neff.
The game is known for its simple but challenging gameplay, where players progress through various levels, defeating enemies and bosses. The centurion can collect power-ups in the form of spirit balls, which enhance his abilities and eventually allow him to transform into different mythological beasts, such as a werewolf, dragon, tiger, bear, and golden wolf.
"Altered Beast" was one of the early titles for the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive and was often bundled with the console, contributing to its popularity. While the game received mixed reviews at the time of its release, it has since become a cult classic and is remembered fondly for its nostalgic value and iconic "Rise from your grave" voiceover.
